Interested in joining Anova’s Board of Directors?

At Anova, we believe in an inclusive world of shared power where everyone lives freely without fear of violence. Our work aims to dismantle patriarchal systems that perpetuate gender-based sexual violence and inequality.  Anova’s services are grounded in four pillars: shelter, support, education, and advocacy. Services at our sites include:

  • Violence Against Women Emergency Shelters
  • Second Stage Housing
  • Community Outreach
  • Children’s Group Program
  • Counselling and Support
  • 24 Hour Crisis and Support Line
  • Sexual Assault Counselling
  • Public Education

Anova invites you to consider contributing your skills and perspectives by joining our Board of Directors.  We recruit new Board members annually, with appointments confirmed at our September Annual Members Meeting. While there may not always be board vacancies, we’re continually building a pool of engaged, talented individuals interested in future opportunities.

Opportunities to Engage

As a Board Member, you will contribute to and help shape Anova’s strategic plan and ongoing impact in the GBV sector. The board meets in-person one evening each month from September to June, with all meeting spaces being both child-friendly and accessible. In addition to attending regular board meetings, members are asked to join at least one sub-committee. The time commitment for committees varies depending on the committee and the time of year. On average, board members can expect to contribute approximately 8–10 hours per month.

Who Should Apply?

Anova is committed to expanding the diversity of voices on our Board. We especially welcome expressions of interest from individuals with lived experience or identities including equity-deserving groups, rural communities, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, Indigenous Peoples, male-identified individuals, newcomers, and parents. We strive to foster a diverse and inclusive board that reflects the communities we serve.

We are particularly interested in candidates who bring experience in

  • Social Services/Development & Housing
  • Fund Development/Donor Relations/Event Planning
  • Government Relations
  • Accounting & Finance
  • EDI
  • Communications & Marketing (inc. Media Relations)
  • Risk Management
