Social Media Campaign Plan

#WeBelieveSurvivors

Purpose

This campaign offers a survivor-centred, public education-focused response to the Hockey Canada trial. It supports survivors without attacking individuals or institutions, and pushes back against misinformation and victim-blaming. It builds understanding that the courtroom is not the only place justice happens. We are creating a unified, national voice from sexual assault centres, survivor-led groups, educators, youth leaders, legal advocates, and everyday allies.

Campaign Pillars

  • Learn – Myths about sexual violence must be challenged. Ie. Justice is not one-size-fits-all. The criminal justice system is not a solution. It will not end rape culture, address toxic masculinity or build consent culture.  Court is one path, but not the only one. Everyone can learn how to respond to disclosures and support survivors.
  • Act – Support survivors, no matter the outcome. Institutions, including sports systems, must face their role in silencing survivors.
  • Heal – nourish yourself as you engage with this case. Regardless of the outcome, this process has been traumatizing. There are always survivors in the room, including yourself.
